What do you do when you wake up in the morning?

First thing?

In the haze of what is your first moment of consciousness, don’t you find it curious that we have never been able to identify where consciousness lies in the brain?

Consciousness is the realization that you are you, that you exist. That you are thinking, and therefore you are. You begin processing information, making decisions, determining and implementing a plan of action for yourself. Realize how badly you have to go to the bathroom, and at my age note the fact that you were up just a few hours prior spurred to consciousness by those same neural impulses.

I am thankful.

In that pitch black that is my first moment of consciousness, I am thankful. I am thankful for many things, the first of which is that my brain is as operational as it was yesterday.

Think of the checklist pilots must have to go through before they even move the plane one inch, and convert those boxes to bodily functions.

Brain—operational. Check.

No pain anywhere. Check.  In fact, very snugly comfortable.

Lungs, operating without external assistance.
Check.

Heart—
Check.  There are times I can hear my pulse, my heart beating in my ears. I know it's working because my brain is operational. Check.

Musculoskeletal System—
Check.  A little more stiff and noisy than before, but still good to go.

Eyes—Charlie, my dog resting on the pillow above my head.
Check.

Nose—Charlie, my dog resting on the pillow above my head.
Check.

Body Checklist—
all checks.  For that I am so grateful, knowing that there are others who are not as fortunate.

These are
Level One Blessings. Be appreciative of them and prepare yourself to make the most of them today.

Return to Your Babyhood Remember the good old days when you were a baby? When you never gave up, regardless of how many times you failed. What happened to those good old days? When you were learning how to walk, you fell down each and every time. On average 17 times per hour. Hundreds if not thousands of times. And what did you do? You got back up. Each and every time. No questions asked. Never taking failure as your final answer. And then, you succeeded. You never doubted yourself. You never overthought things. You never got in your way. If you are now doing these things, preventing yourself from succeeding, getting in your own way, doubting yourself, overthinking things, stop. You can do it. You have done it before. When you had far less capabilities and knowledge and support. Wishes for another great day, each one a gift, David/

Failure or Revelation? You never fail at anything, and that is the truth. What you are doing is revealing to yourself an area of improvement. It is important to realize this, because if you are not failing at something, you are not challenging yourself adequately. And if you are not challenging yourself, how do you make yourself a better person tomorrow than you are today? So please, fail at something often. Be a better person each and every day, because, Each day is a gift, David/
