About twenty plus years ago I stopped rooting for “my” Mets, Jets, Knicks, and Rangers. And yes, it is completely unfair that at age 11 three of the four of them won “World Championships”. And yes, ridiculously unfair that my father being from Queens would take me to Shea Stadium almost every weekend to watch the Mets and Jets play.
Then, the unthinkable started to happen. Rules being bent, professional athletes started seeking alternative ways to improve their already amazing God given talents. And as time moved forward it became obvious to me that they were more interested in themselves than the fans and even the team they played for.
As I started to drift away from spending time collecting cards, watching sports, and reading sports articles, I began to realize the value of that newly found time continued to increase.
I started spending more time with my wife and kids and friends. I started doing new hobbies. I started reading more and learning about so many topics – all of my choosing.
Not that I am saying getting lost in an hour or two of TV or movie entertainment is bad. What I am saying is that appreciate that you are allocating the most expensive and important thing you have – your time. You are always deciding as to the value of that time and whether or not you are interested in getting dividends from it. And that decision is a permanent one.
Starting today – consider being a FANatic of yourself and those around you – the people who care about you, and you them.
Wishes for a great day to all,
Hugs too,
